About Me

I feel deeply blessed to have grown up and continue to live in Chennai, a city often described as the citadel of South Indian classical music. Immersed in the world of the arts from an early age, I have been a lifelong rasika of Carnatic music and a dedicated Veena student for over twenty-four years. Under the guidance of several Gurus, my musical journey has shaped both my artistry and my way of seeing the world. Alongside teaching and performing on the Veena, I work as a freelance journalist and art critic, writing primarily for The Hindu’s Friday Review and for select art journals.

While my foundation lies in Indian classical music, my approach to art and culture extends beyond any single tradition. I believe in viewing art through a wide and inclusive lens that embraces regional and folk forms as much as global and contemporary expressions. Art, to me, transcends borders and identities; it is secular, inclusive, and universal, belonging equally to everyone who engages with it sincerely.

Through my writing, I try to foster a deeper and more sensitive appreciation of the arts—an understanding that looks beyond performance to the thought, discipline, and imagination that shape creativity. Such awareness enriches audiences and nurtures mutual respect and inspiration among artists, who are, above all, human beings that think, feel, and create in response to the world around them.

I also believe that art is a form of activism, a medium that can question, heal, and inspire change. The arts have always mirrored the moral and emotional climate of their times, and it is vital that we recognise and support their potential to bring about meaningful social transformation.

This website brings together my writings, interviews, and reflections. It is a space for readers who share a belief in the power of art to connect, question, and elevate human experience.
